iBT Speaking Question 5: Backup Plan
What happens when you don't get all of the conversation in your notes? Maybe you didn't understand one of the solutions or your mind wandered. Now it's time to prepare and you're panicking. You should always have a backup plan for times like this. With this question, let's say you only got the problem and the first solution. This will not be enough to fill up sixty seconds. Give your response with the problem and the first solution slowly (but not too slow) and then give your opinion. Your opinion should be based on the first solution to be safe since you didn't hear the second one. Do not guess about the second solution because if you get it wrong then your opinion will be wrong as well. Stick to that first solution and fill the rest of your response time with as many reasons as you can. Generalize about the importance of the solution to that particular problem and speak about what most students should do in that situation. If you've still got ten seconds or more then you need to just summarize what you've already said. This might be repetitious but it's a lot better than silence.
